THE SANILAC COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY PROUDLY PRESENTS A MILITARY HISTORY TIMELINE EVENT
Port Sanilac, MI (April 26, 2021) – The Sanilac County Historical Society invites the community to a unique event bringing two centuries of military history into one place and one afternoon. Living historians in uniform will present elements of military life from the Revolutionary War through modern day. The event will include live musket and artillery demonstrations, military vehicles on display, a veteran’s panel discussion, special presentations on Female Spies in the Civil War and flag folding, unique military displays, patriotic music and military marches performed by the Sanilac Community Symphonic Band, special reenactor appearances by Paul Revere, Benjamin Franklin, and players from the All-American Girls’ Professional Baseball League, food trucks, and more. This free event has something for everyone!
The emcee for the event will be former Michigan Secretary of State and U. S. Congresswoman, and current Macomb County Public Works Commissioner, Candice Miller; a longtime friend and advocate of veterans. The Military History Timeline Event is happening on May 29, from noon – 4pm, at the Sanilac County Historic Village & Museum, located at 228 S. Ridge St (M25) in Port Sanilac.
The Museum’s 16 historic buildings will be open during the event. Self-guided tours of the Mansion, including the military room, are just $5 per person. Please bring a lawn chair. This is a free event but your donations will be gratefully accepted. This is an outdoor event and social distancing is encouraged on the Museum’s ten-acre grounds.
Those wishing to honor or remember a veteran at the event may purchase a yard sign for $25. The signs will be listed as “IN HONOR OF” or “IN MEMORY OF” and will include the veteran’s name, branch of service, and years served. The signs will be placed along the driveway and on the Museum grounds on the day of the event. To order a sign, please reply to email@example.com. Deadline to order is May 17, 2021.
All Sanilac County military/veterans service organizations are welcome and encouraged to bring their colors and participate in the opening ceremonies.
