Ever wanted to learn about honey bees and Beekeeping? Then join in the fun at the Pine River Nature Center in Goodells, once a month on the 3rd Tuesday, February through May! Meetings start at 6 p.m. and begin with a brief discussion of current bee events and news, followed by our monthly raffle. They ask that you please support the raffle as this is their way of funding the different things we do throughout the year, our speakers, picnic, and or end of the year party. The club donates items to be raffled and members usually bring in things they may have purchased, extra beekeeping items you may have, or fresh eggs, hand made crafts, etc. You purchase tickets and they raffle off the items. Then they will break off into two groups. The Beginner classes will bee conducted by Todd Murdock and will consist of amazing facts and behaviors of honey bees and how to be a beekeeper. You can expect to learn what types of hives, clothing, and tools to choose from. How to get your hive started and get you on your way to a successful season. The Advanced classes will bee conducted by Jim Ford. Jim will teach people who have already begun keeping bees for a year or two. You can expect to learn about different pests, and methods of keeping your bees pest free. In addition, honey harvesting techniques, how to and why we split hives in the spring and much more. This is intended for P.R.B. Club members but all are welcome to attend. All they ask is that if you decide to come back that you sign up to bee a member and pay the yearly dues of $20 per household.
