The Blue Water Sturgeon Festival continues on Sunday, August 22  from 6:00 – 10:00 p.m. at the Fort Gratiot Lighthouse Station Park, 2800 Omar Street in Port Huron with the Sturgeon Full Moon Lighthouse Climb. This event coincides with August’s full moon, the Sturgeon Moon, and offers exclusive full moon lighthouse climbs. Event admission fees are TBD.

The event is divided into two segments, both include lighthouse climbs and Native American drum circles. The early period is 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and features food vendors, activities, exhibitor booths. Families are encouraged to bring chairs and pack a picnic. The second period is 8:00 – 10:00 p.m. and shifts to the beach for fireside chats, storytelling while watching the moonrise over Lake Huron. Families should bring chairs or blankets.

The event will comply with local and state COVID advisories to ensure the safety of visitors, volunteers and the community, and will follow the latest Executive Order requirements and protocols established by the St. Clair County Health Department.

This event is centered on education about Lake Sturgeon, a mascot for the Great Lakes and their recovery. Friends of the St. Clair River hatched the Blue Water Sturgeon Festival in 2014 to highlight the fascinating story of this ancient fish. Sturgeon are threatened in 7 of the 8 Great Lakes states. Once on the brink of extinction, they have become a spotlight species for the habitat work completed in the St. Clair River. Funds raised during the event support Friends of the St. Clair River’s programs.

Friends of the St. Clair River is Michigan’s Thumb Coast watershed organization and largest environmental nonprofit inspiring citizen action through stewardship, monitoring and education to restore, protect and enhance the St. Clair River and its watersheds.
