What could be more exciting for kids than cannons blasting, bullets flying and soldiers dying right before their eyes?

It is a teachable moment as Civil War reenactors fight the Battle of Shiloh, recreating the drama of this major Tennessee battle, fought April 6 and 7, 1862. “Visitors will be able to interact with the Shiloh townsfolk beforehand and after the battle, see who helped take care of the wounded,” reports Ken Giorlando, one of the reenactors organizers.

All these events are only part of the Sanilac County Historic Village and Museum Civil War Days, being held August 5 and 6, from 10 am to 5 pm.

Admission is $8 for those above 13 years of age, $4 for kids 5 to 13 years old, and free under 5 years old. Museum tours that day include memorabilia from the Grand Army of the Republic on display in the Military Room. Guided tours are scheduled at noon and 3 pm and cost $8 for an adult fee, children under 13 years of age are free with a paid adult admission.

Sanilac County Historical Museum and Village’s fourth annual Civil war weekend promises to be bigger and better than ever.  We will be recreating the Gettysburg Battle.  You, as spectators, will be part of it as the townspeople.   President Lincoln will again join us, along with his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln.  There will be battles, skirmishes, cannon barrages and more.

There will be a Civil war hospital, old time Church service and a Grand Ball on Saturday evening.

All buildings will be open with docents in period clothing.
